On wednesday, The national Education Policy (NEP) was announced by HRD Minister Ramesh Nishank and I & B Minister Prakash Javedkar.
It is important as for 34 years there were no changes in the education policy.
ABOUT NEW POLICY :
A new 10+2 system,will divided into 5+3+3+4 format.
The extant 10+2 structure in school education will be modified with a new pedagogical and curricular restructuring of 5+3+3+4 covering ages 3-18. Currently, children in the age group of 3-6 are not covered in the 10+2 structure as Class 1 begins at age 6. In the new 5+3+3+4 structure, a strong base of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) from age 3 is also included.
here 5 represent for foundation stage which includes pre-primary school + 1st & 2nd class.
here 3 represents for preparatory stage which includes 3rd to 5th class.
here again 3 represent for middle stage which includes 6th to 8th class.
And 4 represent for secondary stage which includes 9th to 12th class.
major changes in system includes :
School complexes to be used for adult education courses after school hours.
To develop high quality modules for Indian Sign Language.
School will not have any rigid information of streams of art, commerce and science, they can take up whichever courses they want.
The common entrance exam for all higher education institutes to be held by NIA
The 4 year programme may also lead to a degree 'with research' if the student complete a rigorous research project.
Music, arts and literature to be taught in all colleges.
M.phill to be discontinued.
NCC wings in secondary and higher secondary schools under Ministry of Defence
Sanksrit will be mainstreamed.
Vocational skills to be taught.
No rigid separation between arts and science curriculum.
National Scholarship portal for SC, ST, OBC, SEDGs students to be expanded
Making it more flexible, the NEP 2020 offers the students the option of choosing a 1 year Diploma, a 3 year bachelors degree or a 4 year bacherlors' degree with research across disciplines.
